We can help our school when we all work together!
Bates Walk-a-thon is our major fundraiser and we have always done very well with this united school effort to raise money for our school. Last year we raised over $4600! Our goal this year is to exceed this total. The children will bring home pledge sheets. They will ask friends, family and neighbors to sponsor them; that is, to pledge an amount of money per lap that they will walk around the school. If sponsors prefer, they can simply make a donation. On the day of the walk, each student will have 40 minutes to walk as many laps as s/heis able. We encourage parents to come, show their support, and cheer the children on the day of the Walk-A-Thon!
Blue Ribbon Cake Shop--located at 118 Boston Street in Salem, will donate 15% of every cake purchased by a Bates School student to the Bates PTO! All cakes are made fresh daily--birthday,wedding and special character cakes available. Remember to call them with your special occasion order and mention that your child is a student at Bates School! All of their products are PEANUT FREE.

Great Lakes Scrip Gift Card program
Each year before Christmas the PTO offers the Bates community the opportunity to make their holiday shopping easier. We are enrolled in the Great Lakes Scrip Gift Card Program which offers gift certificates from over 75 retailers. We buy these gift certificates from Scrip at a discount, and we sell them for their face value. Our school can make from 2% - 20% per card ordered, and it does not cost our Bates families any extra just the cost of the card, and Bates receives a profit.
Last year Bates families purchased $1,400 worth of gift cards through Scrip. The PTO received approximately $90.
NAME THE LANE
Each year the PTO raffles off the chance for one lucky student to have his/her name printed on the street sign located out front of the school. The student who sells the winning ticket and one lucky friend receive a limo ride to school on the day the street sign is unveiled. At the end of the school year that student is given the sign with his/her name on it to keep as a souvenir.
This year the PTO raised approximately $1,100 from this event. Our lucky winner was Myra Hartford in the 5th grade. The name of our lane this year is MYRA ROSE LANE. Congratulations Myra!
Cartridge World allows our school to raise funds by collecting empty printer cartridges. This is a simple, year round fundraising program that requires very little effort by thePTO. We generate funds for our school while we save hundreds of pounds of printer cartridges from going into landfills.
The Bates School, in cooperation with the Salem Department of Public Services has installed a brick pathway in the Greenlawn Cemetery, located across the street from the Bates Elementary School. You have a unique opportunity to purchase a brick(s) to honor, dedicate, or memorialize individuals. You may order bricks at any time. We will put in an order when we have a sufficient number to allay shipping costs. However, at least one order will be sent in the spring regardless of quantity. You can find order forms on the PTO board in the lobby.
Three for Me is the parent volunteer program sponsored by theBates Elementary PTO. Three for Me is a promise from parents and caregivers to our children and their school that you are making a pledge to volunteer three hours of your time throughout the school year. Now, of course, if you have the ability to volunteer more than three hours, we welcome you. But this program is asking all parents and caregivers to get involved by giving only three hours. See the PTO board in the lobby for forms.
